Daily Devo 96 – What Does Amen Mean?

However you pronounce it, what does “Amen” mean? It’s not an English word and it doesn’t have anything to do with gender. The word amen has its root word in the Hebrew word aman, which means trustworthy or faithful. So when you or I say “Amen,” we’re saying everything that was just said is trustworthy, truthful, and we can have faith in it. It’s reliable. And that leads us to another important question: “Who told you that?” You and I need to constantly evaluate what we’re hearing and ask “who told me that? Are they reliable and are they truthful?”

Challenge: when someone says something true, say AMEN! It can be really fun to see their reaction. But it’s also an excellent way to remember what amen means and that as Christians, we know Who tells us truth—the one who loves you, wants so much for you, and celebrates over you with singing.
