Daily Devo 89 – A Joyful Christmas?

When it comes to Christmas, for some people the holiday doesn’t bring joy or excitement because of the pain that it reminds them of. I come from a broken home where my parents got divorced when I was young. Christmas was always so stressful because I would have to switch off houses during the day so that parents would get to spend time with my brother and I. Seeing all my friend’s families happy and together on Christmas was something that always made my heart hurt and still does to this day. At Christmas, however, we celebrate that Jesus came to live and die so that we could have a relationship with Him. In this relationship, Christ brings light into our darkest circumstances, including hurt like mine.

I don’t have a challenge for you today but hear me on this. If you’re someone who relates with me on this level of feeling pain in this holiday season whether it comes from divorce, loss of a loved one, or mental illness, know you’re not alone. You are not the only one who is walking through pain during this season. But know there is a hope in Christ Himself because he came to be the light in the darkness. He did not come to bring the light; He is the light!
