I think we’ve missed the point. Here it is, Election Day, and this whole country is just exhausted. So many things have been dragging our attention away from what we should really be focused on. It’s so easy to lose sight of our purpose. Our purpose as followers of Jesus is to do just that: follow Jesus! In John 5, Jesus healed a paralyzed man on the Sabbath day of rest. Jesus followed the example of God the Father (His own father), but the people around Jesus were too distracted by the rules of resting on the Sabbath that they missed the point. The point of God and His Son Jesus is that we should have eternal life with God. Jesus pursued that with his life and calls us to use our lives to bring that incredible message to the world.
Challenge: Give life by breaking a rule. This can be really challenging but really fun. It could be a written rule or an unwritten social boundary, but do something extraordinarily kind for someone by breaking a rule. When you do this, message us to tell us what rule you broke and what act of kindness you did. Be encouraged to wake up every day focused on following after Jesus’ example despite the distractions.
