Daily Devo 76 – The Bigger Picture

There are so many reasons why I love the Bible, but sometimes I find myself reading a passage in the Bible and forgetting to look at the bigger picture of what is being presented. In John 4, Jesus does something incredible: he heals a man’s son from 50 miles away! The boy was very close to death, so it’s easy to see how this miracle healing was amazing. But the bigger picture is this: after this happened, the man, his son, and the whole household trusted in Jesus–that’s a transformation that lasts for eternity! It’s easy to focus on our daily needs right in front of us, but let’s never forget to thank God for the free gift of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus!

My challenge to you today is to change your perspective from only focusing on earthly pursuits to focusing on the kingdom of heaven. Spend time in prayer thanking God for the gift salvation and new life in His Kingdom. When we only focus on what we want God to be doing for us in our lives, it distracts us from pursuing God’s will for our lives. God’s will for our lives is for us to become more and more like Christ.
