I woke up at 3am to my dog Cabela barking like crazy in the backyard. She was going absolutely crazy, so I went out to calm her down… only to find a cat sitting on the fence taunting her! Then Bela and I both went crazy scaring this cat away. Worry sometimes acts like that silly cat, consuming us and making us go crazy, even though we can’t do anything about it. Jesus points us away from worrying, however, because he knows it’s fruitless and self-centered. Instead, he calls us to focus on God and what He’s doing in us and through us to make a loving impact on others for His Kingdom.
Challenge: Start asking these questions to God in the mornings: “God, what do you want me to focus on? Who can I be helping today? How can I be following Jesus’ example?” Seek Him out in prayer when you wake up and ask Him how you can use today to be concerned for helping other people and for growing closer to Him.
