In Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus calls out people who are generous, but only so that other people will see their generosity and kindness. This kind of fake generosity is like a performance and cheapens the love we pretend to have for others. Instead, we’re called to give in secret, so that we can be sure that our kindness, generosity, and love is genuine. This is how God loves us, too, with a genuine and massive and reckless love.
Today’s challenge: Quietly help someone. Try to do something meaningful for them that’ll affect them in their heart; not just externally, but internally. Don’t think about it too long, just do it!
