One of my favorite shows in the early 2000s was one where’d they’d “borrow” someone’s car and give it a major facelift: new stereo, rims, tires, paint job–the works! But shows like that weren’t generous to be helpful, they made money off the show’s success and popularity. In Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus calls out being generous for our own gain, which is hypocritical. Jesus says that when we are generous in secret, we are trusting that God will reward us and that God’s reward is more than enough for us!
Today’s challenge: secretly surprise someone with your generosity. Buy a gift card for your friend, do all the dishes for your parents, get creative! Don’t tell anyone about, maybe even do it without your recipient knowing it was you. But know that you did a good thing, and God sees that and your generous reward is waiting for you.
