Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. In Matthew 5:33-38, Jesus says don’t take oaths, but what’s at the heart of this? He’s saying there shouldn’t be a single difference between what you say and do “under oath” compared with normal circumstances. As Jesus followers, we’re called to do the right thing and say what we mean, regardless of circumstances. Jesus gives us the perfect example: he said “love your neighbors,” and then he went and loved his neighbors–even dying for them (us) on the cross!
Today’s challenge: do something out of the ordinary and really nice for someone. And then carry through on it, following in the example of Jesus, who did something extraordinary for us when he died to pay for our mistakes.
