Daily Devo 31 – You Are Not Consumable

This is a sensitive topic: lust. In Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus says that adultery and lust expose the same core issue: both degrade others to objects that are used for personal pleasure and momentary happiness. God calls us in our hearts to lift people up and honor them. Lust tells us horrible things about ourselves while God tells us we are loved and we are his. As Jesus followers, he calls us to gouge out lust from our lives, and the first step is to recognize where it is in the first place.

Today’s challenge: make a list of all the parts of our culture that encourage us to lust. Honestly, your eyes will be opened when you open your eyes. Try to notice how our culture puts sexual content into more and more things. And listen to the voice of God when he tells you, “You are beautiful; you are mine.”
