Daily Devo 24 – Rollercoasters

Roller coasters are great, but sometimes I get freaked out getting thrown side to side and up and down. But when that happens, I try to think about the end of the coaster, when I’ll stand up and celebrate! It helps a bit. Habakkuk is in a similar place, where terrible chaos is happening around him and he’s crying out to God, “Why aren’t you doing anything??” He and God talk, and Habakkuk comes to this beautiful conclusion: even though nothing’s going right, I will rejoice and celebrate because of God. It’s a struggle right now in daily life with COVID-19 shutdowns (still), but we can ride this rollercoaster and rejoice because God has won and he will erase brokenness, sin, hurt–you name it–from existence.

Today’s challenge: write down Habakkuk 3:18 and hang it somewhere you’ll see it and be reminded by it. Maybe even write something like, “Even though [blank] isn’t going well,” and then write the verse. Let it be a daily reminder to you that we can celebrate God’s victory for us even while we’re still on the rollercoaster.
