In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, Jesus speaks highly of “peacemakers,” but who are peacemakers? It really clicked for me when I heard this, that bringing peace into people’s lives sometimes requires me getting dirty and hopping into the pit of struggle that they’re in to sit across from them and say, “I’m in this with you.” Peacemakers do that and so much more, which is how they imitate God. God sent Jesus to sit in the pit with us, then he gave his life to rescue us from the pit.
Today’s challenge: who is going through a tough time around you? Pray about how you can sit in the pit with them, to be a peacemaker in their life, to bring them comfort in their massive discomfort.
