Daily Devo 19 – Treated Like Garbage

Do you go thrift shopping? I mean, “one man’s trash is another’s treasure,” right? It’s just a different perspective of use on the same thing. We’re looking at Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 and how he’s being followed by sick, poor, and demon-possessed people–people who were treated like trash by everyone else. And he shatters what they thought was true by telling them that THEY are the people first in line for heaven. It’s not because of their conditions, but their conditions make them desperate for help… especially help from God. That’s where we are when we look at our mistakes/sin–helpless to change and powerless to pay for our sins. We confess to God our sins and he forgives us in our desperation and sees us as His treasure.

Today’s challenge: write down/confess your sins onto a piece of paper, especially the ones you feel most vulnerable about and powerless over. Then, get rid of that sheet–burn it (safely), tear it up, whatever! And know that God treasures you in your desperation.
